Almost 2 weeks ago I received a phone call on my cellphone. It was someone from KPN. He informs me that a letter was sent to me on October 14th that noted the €50 credit and he asked if had I received it.
I pause for a moment. "But that's today, and it's 11:00 in the morning. The
Dutch mail service is not that good".
It is his turn to pause. He wants to close a complaint I have opened. I ask him
which one? There is another pause. He discovers I have other complaints in the
system, actually many other complaints.
I tell him I am not willing to close any complaint until KPN finally finishes
the installation of our phone service, which, all things going well, is scheduled
for October 26th.
In the country I come from, the expression "all things going well" is normally an expression of hope, not a plea for a miracle. The Dutch have all kinds of
wonderful expressions that only they understand.

I never did receive a letter about the €50 credit but the KPN technicians (two of them) show up at 9:00 in the morning. I explain what has has happened up to this point
and show them the current clusterfuck installation and
we all have a good laugh.
In 20 minutes or so the connector box is gone. So is the splitter box, the
cables, and the modem with its christmas tree array of LED's. Now I just plug
the phone into a phone socket, any phone socket, and it works.
I call my MLW to test the system. It starts to ring almost immediately after
I dial. This is like a high performance telephone. She answers. Her voice sounds
great. Life is getting better.
The technicians offer to vacuum up the dust and debris, but I gratefully decline.
They also offer me some cable ties to tidy up the remaining cables behid the TV.
There is a sudden downpour of customer service on the parched landscape of
the KPN customer service. Life is good.
